Surgical Technology

Huntsville Hospital School of Surgical Technology, located in the Dowdle Center at 109 Governors Drive, is a 6-month program designed to prepare an individual for an entry-level surgical technologist (surgical assistant)position in the Operating Room.

This is a non-accredited program and students are not eligible to take the national certification exam. If selected for this program, students are considered a full-time (36 hours/week) Huntsville Hospital employee. The classroom is 12 weeks in length and meets Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There are two clinical rotations with an assigned preceptor for a total of 10 weeks. There are no prerequisites.   You must be eligible to be a hospital employee.

How to apply

The open application period is for a limited time, just before the class begins.  To apply for consideration for the next class, please go to the Huntsville Hospital Careers Portal, select Training Programs under categories, or key in Scrub Assistant Trainee to apply.  

  • All applications must include a resume with the job application.
  • A 3-year contract is required, which states that the participant will have a work commitment.
  • Individuals currently employed by Huntsville Hospital may apply but their overall work history including any past disciplinary actions will be taken into consideration in the final applicant selection process. 
  • Positions in the OR require the employee to take call, and be able to return on site within 30 minutes.  This is not required while in the program.
