Blossomwood K-Kids Club Helps Tiny Babies
Some youngsters at Huntsville’s Blossomwood Elementary School are opening their hearts to help premature babies in the Neonatal ICU at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. In February, the club took part in a project called “Hearts of Love.” They made hearts for Valentine’s Day, and students purchased them for their favorite teachers. CAS Cares Helping Pediatric Patients
Physicians and their Wives Establish Endowed Named Funds Three Huntsville Hospital physicians and their wives have established endowed named funds to benefit the hospital and our employees. Dr. and Mrs. Carl Gessler established the Sarah and Carl Gessler Cardiac Education Fund to provide continuing education scholarships for Huntsville Hospital Cardiology employees. Dr. Rao and Bhavani Kakani endowed the Prasada-Rao and Bhavani Kakani Surgery Scholars Fund to provide continuing education scholarships to the Operating Room staff at Huntsville Hospital. And, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Bell established the Thomas and Sharon Bell Radiology Education Fund to provide continuing education scholarships for deserving employees in Huntsville Hospital’s Imaging Department. Thank you to these three families for your unwavering commitment to Huntsville Hospital!
10-Year-Old Boy Donates Birthday Money to Pediatric Oncology Will Colley didn’t want presents for his 10th birthday. Instead, he asked his friends to give money to Pediatric Oncology. In all, he donated $350 to Huntsville Hospital Foundation! Thank you Will for making a difference in the lives of our young patients.
Third Grader Raises Money for Pediatric Oncology
Matthew Namie made a special delivery to Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children recently. Instead of exchanging gifts at their school Christmas Party, Matthew and his fellow students raised $850 for Pediatric Oncology. Matthew is a former patient of that department, and his mom, Danna, was so grateful for the care her son received that she wanted a way to give back. She sent letters to the parents of Matthew’s classmates and asked them to give as well. Thank you Matthew and Moulton Elementary third graders for giving to Huntsville Hospital Foundation! Good Sams Club Does Good Work
On December 14, the Sand Mountain Sams Club showed what a big difference a little hard work can make. Members of the Good Sams Camping Club collected aluminum cans and held yard sales to raise money for babies in the Neonatal ICU. The $4,500 donation will provide a Neo Blue mini phototherapy light, and the remainder of the funding will go toward a cribette. The Foundation would like to extend a big thank you to the Good Sams for their generous gift!
Merci Grissom French Students!
The French class students of Grissom High School are making a difference in the lives of our youngest patients. The students held their Sixth Annual community-wide event, "Célébrons la France!" on November 7th, which consisted of French plays, poems, monologues, songs and baked goods. The award winning, Grissom Advanced French class students were accompanied by their own elementary students from Chaffee, Challenger, Weatherly, Whitesburg and Willowbrook Baptist. The event raised a total of $1,000 that will be used towards equipment and facility needs for the Pediatric Oncology program at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children.
Pediatric Therapy Receives Christmas Wish from Civitans
Christmas came right on time for the patients of Pediatric Therapy this year! On December 4, Civitans Care president Jim McKemy and members of the Civitans Care board presented the Pediatric Therapy Department with a check for $15,000. The donation will provide full funding for the music therapy program, and it will also fund many other equipment needs of Pediatric Therapy. Since 2003, Civitans Care has given $92,000 to the Pediatric Therapy program. Thanks to the Civitans, each patient receives the best, most up-to-date care possible!
Christmas Party Brings Smiles to Pediatric Patients When Santa Claus visited the Pediatric Unit at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children on December 18, he brought a few of his special elves to help him! The Angels for Children hosted a Christmas party in the Child Life playroom, and Santa made an appearance with skilled toymaker and Christmas elf Dick Maroon. During the months leading up to Christmas, Maroon hand carved dozens and dozens of wooden ambulances, helicopters, trucks, and many other toys - all for the pediatric patients. The toys were a big hit! Thank you to Dick Maroon, the Angel volunteers, and Santa for hosting a wonderful Christmas celebration for the children at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children!
Weichert Realty Donates Christmas Trees to Huntsville Hospital
The staff of Weichert Realty spread cheer throughout Huntsville Hospital this holiday season! The group donated two Christmas trees, along with ornaments, to our hospital – one on the Oncology floor of Huntsville Hospital and another in the lobby of Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. And their generosity didn’t stop there! They also decorated them! In addition, employees also dropped off more than 100 toys the business collected along with the Margarita Society at this year’s Margarita Ball. Those toys will be delivered to children on our Pediatric floor on Christmas Eve. Thank you Weichert Realty for making the season brighter for countless kids this holiday season!
3rd Graders Make Christmas Cards for Pediatric Patients
Students in Lynn McQueen’s class at Blossomwood Elementary School in Huntsville are lucky enough to be healthy this holiday season. So, they wanted to do something for those kids who aren’t. The 3rd graders made Christmas cards for children who are in the Pediatric Unit of Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children during the holidays. Thanks 3rd graders for spreading Christmas cheer to our pediatric patients!
Havoc and Domino’s Join the Fight Against Pediatric Cancer
The Huntsville Havoc hockey team and Domino’s Pizza recently teamed up to raise money for Pediatric Oncology at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. At an exhibition game on October 19 at the Von Braun Center, they raised $3,644.58! The money will be used to purchase equipment to benefit children with cancer.

Members of the Flintville Homemakers Club in Tennessee recently took their love of sewing to new heights! The ladies sewed more than 120 blankets, hats and booties for babies in the Neonatal ICU and donated 11 disposable cameras to the unit. Thank you Flintville Homemakers Club for helping our tiniest patients!
Employees with CAS Cares, Inc. woke up bright and early for a great cause! They visited the Star 99.1 studio of Scott & Dee Dee in the Morning to give them a $3000 check for Scott & Dee Dee’s Champions for Children. The money will be used to purchase a media station for the Child Life program at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. CAS Cares, Inc. is the non-profit corporation formed by employees of CAS, Inc. and has given $33,000 to Huntsville Hospital Foundation since 1993. The Foundation extends a warm thank you to CAS Cares for their commitment to our hospital!
