The Ruth B. Camp Scholarship Fund
Many years ago, Huntsville's first radiologist, Dr. E. E. Camp made a gift of stock to Huntsville Hospital in honor of his wife, Ruth, a former pediatric nurse. In 1989, the Foundation sold this highly appreciated asset and invested the principal to endow the Ruth B. Camp Scholarship Fund, to be used for nursing and paramedical scholarships. Mrs. Camp serves of the Scholarship Committee and plays an active role in the selection of recipients. She also takes great pleasure in personally awarding these scholarships each year at the awards ceremony. "The biggest thing to me is how appreciative the winners are," Mrs. Camp says. "Recently, when I was doing volunteer work at the hospital, a young medical technician approached me and thanked me again for the scholarship he had received years ago. Now...that's special!" To ensure that the scholarship fund will meet future needs, Mrs. Camp has made a provision in her will for more resources to be invested in the fund. "Endowment is the key word," she says. "With an endowment, you know that the funds will go on and on helping people."
