Minimum Admission Requirements
- All applicants must have a valid U.S. Social Security number and/or be eligible to work in the United States
- Take the Health Occupations Aptitude Examination (exam fee included in application fee)
- Submit four letters of recommendation (reference forms included in application packet).
- Self-Evaluation (form included in application packet)
- Radiology Career Essay
- Official transcripts of all prior education.
- Completion of the following coursework with a minimum of a "C" average in each from an agency recognized by the U.S. Dept of Education.
Area I Mathematics, 3 semester hours (Required)
- Intermediate Algebra or higher
Area II Written/Oral Communications
- English Composition, 3 semester hours (Required)
Area III Natural Sciences, 8 semester hours (Required)
- Anatomy & Physiology I
- Anatomy & Physiology II
Area IV Elective, 3 semester hours (Required)
- These three hours may be in information systems (preferred), social/behavioral sciences, and/or humanities.
Credit by examination
The program recognizes the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) for college credit. Passing scores recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE) are accepted.
Note: Anatomy and Physiology I & II must have been completed within the past seven years to be considered.
Note that all foreign transcripts and degrees must be evaluated and translated into equivalent college hours of credit including grade point average (GPA). This evaluation must be submitted with the application in a sealed envelope or sent directly from the credentialing service. Completion of admission requirements does not guarantee admission into the program.
Admission Procedures
- Submit application and official transcripts January 1 - March 15. Classes begin every July.
- Submit a $50 non-refundable application fee made out to Huntsville Hospital.
- Submit official high school and college transcripts
- The program will contact applicants to schedule the PSB Health Occupations aptitude exam. The cost of the exam is included in the application fee.
- Have official high school and college transcripts send directly to the school by the issuing institution by March 15.
- Upon receipt of the aptitude test results, program officials will review test scores, official transcripts and completed application.
- Once the applicant has progressed through the academic evaluation, a radiology observation and personal interview will be scheduled with the selections committee.
- Applicants are scored and selected base on the academic evaluation, entrance exam score, observation evaluation, personal references, and interview assessment.
- Final acceptance is contingent upon drug screen, physical examination, and criminal background check conducted by Huntsville Hospital.
Attention 2013 Applicants: A minimum of an associates degree will be required for July 2013 admission.
A new ARRT regulation states that candidates applying for certification beginning January 1, 2015, must have earned an associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree from an institution accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT. The degree does not need to be in the radiologic sciences.
Transfer Student Policy
The program does not accept transfer students from other radiography programs.
Advanced Placement Policy
Advanced standing is not guaranteed and is limited to space available in the senior class. Students requesting advanced placement must submit an application by March 15 and provide documentation of successful completion of a two year JRCERT accredited program. The same policies and procedures and required clinical competencies will apply to the advanced placement student. Purchase of the required uniforms and textbooks is the responsibility of the student.
